Academic Word Limit Guidance for Students (500 words)

The assignment paper must be 500 words long, which can be easily checked by the student in MS Office Word.

However, some students do not follow the Academic Rule and do not check, and write much more than 500 words, or much less than 500 words.

• ⚠ Slightly exceeds the upper limit. This is minor, but technically it is outside the strict limit.

Difficulty in meeting the required word limit may occur for several reasons, including:

• Lack of experience in academic writing
• Not knowing how to check the word count properly

  – In academic writing, following the given word limit is a very important rule.

(Academic writing မှာ သတ်မှတ်ထားတဲ့ Word limit ကိုလိုက်နာခြင်းဟာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ စည်းကမ်းတစ်ရပ် ဖြစ်ပါတယ်)

• If an assignment requires 500 words, it does not mean you can write much more or much less than that.
• (Assignment တစ်ခုမှာ 500 words လို့ သတ်မှတ်ထားရင် အလွန်အကျွံပိုရေးခြင်း၊ အလွန်အကျွံလျော့နည်းရေးခြင်း နှစ်မျိုးလုံး မမှန်ပါ။)

• Microsoft Word allows you to check your word count easily. Therefore, students are expected to check their work before submission.
• (Microsoft Word မှာ Word count ကို လွယ်ကူစွာ စစ်ဆေးနိုင်တဲ့အတွက် ကျောင်းသားများအနေနဲ့ Submit မလုပ်ခင် မိမိရေးသားထားတာကို စစ်ဆေးဖို့ တာဝန်ရှိပါတယ်။)

•  Writing too many words shows that you cannot organize your ideas clearly.
• (Word အလွန်အကျွံပိုရေးခြင်းက အကြောင်းအရာကို စနစ်တကျ မစီမံနိုင်သေးကြောင်း ပြသပါတယ်။)

• Writing too few words shows that your explanation is not detailed enough.
• (Word အလွန်အကျွံလျော့နည်းရေးခြင်းက အကြောင်းအရာ မပြည့်စုံကြောင်း ပြသပါတယ်။)

 

The purpose of a word limit is to help you:

• Practice clear and focused writing (အကြောင်းအရာကို တိတိကျကျ ရေးတတ်စေရန်)
• Select relevant ideas (မလိုအပ်တဲ့အချက်များကို ချန်ထားတတ်စေရန်)
• Follow academic instructions properly (Academic instruction များကို လိုက်နာတတ်စေရန် ဖြစ်ပါတယ်)

 

• Not following the word limit is not a technical problem, but an academic discipline issue.
• (Word limit မလိုက်နာခြင်းဟာ နည်းပညာဆိုင်ရာ ပြဿနာမဟုတ်ဘဲ Academic discipline ကို မလိုက်နာခြင်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။)
