Astrology-based naming system

Many Myanmar also use astrology (which is determined by the child’s day of birth in the traditional eight-day calendar) to name their children. For instance, a Monday-born child may have a name beginning with the letter “k” (က), “kha (ခ), etc.

e.g: က (ka), ခ (kha), ဂ (ga), ဃ (ga, gha), င (nga) (ချစ်မောင်, ကိုကိုမောင်)

လှည်းဝင်ရိုးသံ၊ တညံညံ၊ ပုဂံဘုရားပေါင်း (၄၄၄၆) ဝင်းဝင်းထိန်လျှံ၊ ပြည်ပေါက်ကံ (၄၄၇၄) Regarding the number of pagodas and monuments in Bagan, there is the traditional figure which was composed like a rhymed couplet for memorization, it runs thus: – Hle Win Yoe Than, (လှည်းဝင်ရိုးသံ) – Ta Nyan Nyan, (တညံညံ) – Bagan Paya Paung (ပုဂံဘုရားပေါင်း) We should translate into figures only the four words in the first line, because the remaining two lines are meant for rhyming with the first line. The four words in the first line give us the figure 4,446. If we include in our translation the words in the other two lines, we will get an astronomical figure of pagodas which Bagan area could not accommodate. ဘုရားများမည်မျှများပြားခဲ့သည်ကို တစ်ချိန်တစ်ခါက အစဉ်အလာ သံပေါက်မှတ်တမ်းတစ်ခုထားခဲ့သည်မှာ “လှည်းဝင်ရိုးသံ၊ တညံညံ၊ ပုဂံဘုရားပေါင်း” ဟူ၍ဖြစ်ပါသည်။ ၄င်းမှာ “လှည်းဝင်ရိုးသံ” သာ ကောက်ယူရပေမည်။ သံပေါက်၏ သဘောမှာ “အစလေးလုံး၊ အလယ်သုံး၊ အဆုံးငါးခုသာ” ဟူ၍ ဖြစ်သည်။   အစလေးလုံးသာ ကောက်ယူသင့်ပါသည်။ တစ်ခုလုံးယူပါက လေးသန်းကျော်သွားမည်ဖြစ်ပါသည်။ (ဥပမာ- “လှည်းဝင်ရိုးသံ တညံညံ” (လဝရသ တညည = 4,446,733 Pagodas & Monuments) ။ See more: Myanmar Naming & Astrology Astrology-Based Naming System ဘုရားလေးသန်းကျော်အတွက် မြေနေရာ အနေအထားအရ မရှိနိုင်ပါ (ပုဂံမြို့ ဧရိယာသည် ၁၉ စတုရန်းမိုင်သာရှိသည်) ။ ပထမလေးလုံးယူပါက ပုဂံဘုရား အရေအတွက် ၄၄၄၆ ဆူသာ ရှိရမည်ဖြစ်ပေသည်။   The calculated number of Bagan pagodas registered during the reign of King Mo Hnyin Mintara of the Inwa Period was “Win Win Htein Hlyan”, which, when converted into a numeral, is 4,474. This figure is quite close to the traditional number mentioned above. Win Win Htein Hlyan (ဝင်းဝင်းထိန်လျှံ) = ၄၄၇၄ Pyi Pauk Kan (ပြည်ပေါက်ကံ) (ဝဝထလ = 4,474 Pagodas & Monuments) ထို့ပြင်အင်းဝခေတ် မိုးညှင်းမင်းတရားလက်ထက်တွင် ပုဂံဘုရားများ ရေတွက်ရာ “ဝင်းဝင်းထိန်လျှံ” ပုဂံဘုရားပေါင်းဟု ဆိုပါသည်။ ၄င်းမှာ ၄၄၇၄ ဆူဖြစ်၍ ပထမ အရေအတွက်နှင့် နီးစပ်ပါသည်။ According to the Inventory of Bagan Pagodas compiled by the Archaeology Department the total number is “Kyaung Kyi Oak Ni” which means 2217. (ကျောင်းကြီးအုတ်နီ = ကကအန = 2,217) ရှေးဟောင်းသုတေသနဦးစီးဌာနမှ ရှေးဟောင်းစေတီပုထိုးများကို မှတ်ပုံတင်စာရင်းသွင်း မှတ်တမ်းတင်ခဲ့ရာ “ကျောင်းကြီးအုတ်နီ” ဟူသောသင်္ကေတဖြင့် ၂၂၁၇ ဆူမျှ ရှိကြောင်း သိရသည်။ During the kingdom’s height between the 11th and 13th centuries, 4,446 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of 3,822 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

The foundation date of Konbaung Dynasty is 1115 ME (Myanmar Era), 1752 AD.

So, it is called “ဥဩအော်မြည်ကုန်းဘောင်တည်”. U Aw Aw Myee: U Aw (ဥဩ) means cuckoo bird and Aw Myee (အော်မြည်) means scream.

ဥကျစ်ကျော်အေးမန္တလေး = 1221 ME (1858 AD)

The foundation date of Mandalay Palace is 1221 ME (1858 AD)

Mingun Bell	Mingun Bell (1896)

Mingun Bell:      On the body of the bell is inscribed the phrase Min Phyu Mhan Mhan Pyaw (မင်းဖြူမှန်မှန်ပြော), with the consonants representing the number ‘5’ in Myanmar (Burmese) astronomy and numerology.
Therefore, the weight of the bell is 55,555 visses.
